Micro Artist Statements for exhibiting gallery pieces.
A. Whispering and Walking:
In Whispering & Walking I am interested in the art of storytelling. The project began as an introspective work compelled by the vastness of experience. Aesthetic and awareness portrait project centered in Africville, NS, community uprooted and displaced by 1950/60's style "urban renewal"
B. Whispering Palms:
Whispering Palms is an impression of Bahamas, primarily Nassau, New Providence by a young female Canadian photographer. The images presented are a glimpse into the photographer’s experience living and working in the Bahamas. A country consisting of a sprinkling of Islands and Keys in the tropical Caribbean; Bahamas is an intricate balance of tourist paradise and inner-city reality; urban and rural living; native community amongst seas of strangers. It was an experience that became a love story between this young photographer and the turquoise ocean, far reaching beaches, tall all-seeing palms trees.
C. Behind Glass:
Behind Glass is a series of intimate, skin-close portraits. The nearness of the poses, symbolic tattoos, individual vulnerabilities, and strengths are present, yet unspoken in the romantic revealing piece. The portrait becomes the new diary. The piece accentuates skin tone, form, light and shadow.
D. Concrete Moments:
Concrete Moments is a piece which documents the urban and natural landscapes that exist among us yet are often unseen. The piece relies on lines, texture, light and shadows. This project has completed works yet is a livelong work in progress.
E. MMA:
Mixed Martial Arts is a compilation of images from various Martial Arts practices and events.
F. My Boudoir:
My Boudoir is a work in progress of women shot in 40’s, 50’s and 60’s style undergarments.
G. The New Autobiography:
The New Autobiography, a non-orthogonal approach to self depiction. Images are all snapshots of image and text compilations from artist’s journals and notebooks.
